Summary of Speakers
Julia Aglionby is a land agent with H&H Bowe Ltd and undertook the shadow council work in the Lake District with the Federation of Cumbria Commoners.
Mark Alexander is from the Office of the Chief Veterinarian Officer and heads up the bovine TB programme.
Kate Ashbrook is General Secretary of the Open Spaces Society.
Graham Bathe is Common Land Projects Manager with Natural England and is lead contact for Natural England on their flagship Common Land Project.
John Bell leads the Bio-security team within Defra and has been developing the new rules on livestock movements.
Stephen Byrne is the author of the book ‘Common Land, Open Country’, published in 2003. His more recent work on the 2006 Act is available at: www.commonsreregistration.org.uk
Hugh Craddock is Head of the Commons Team within Defra.
Julie Dowton is a member of the Bodmin Moor Commoners Association, one of the first groups to consider becoming a shadow commons council.
Mervyn Edwards is an upland specialist within Natural England.
Jenny Griffiths is Commons Registration Officer with Powys County Council and a Chair of the Association of Common Registration Authorities
Jeremy Holtom is Secretary to the Brendon Common Commons Association in Exmoor.
Chris Hill is Manager of the GeoData Institute, a university-based research and consultancy group which specialises in environmental data management, analysis and processing.
Nicola Hodgson is the Case Officer for the Open Spaces Society. She was a solicitor in private practice and assisted Sunningwell Parish Council with their landmark victory in the House of Lords.
Gwyn Jones is a Director of the European Forum for Nature Conservation and Pastorialism and on the Shadow Board for the Foundation for Common Land.
Peter Lanfear is a commoner and Chair of the Gower Commons Association and member of the Welsh Commons Working Group formed by the Welsh Assembly.
Professor Chris Rodgers is based at the Newcastle Law School, Newcastle University, and was Principal Investigator on the ‘Contested Common Land: Environmental Governance, Law and Sustainable Land Management, c. 1600-2006’ project.
Chris Short is Senior Research Fellow in the CCRI and has been convenor for the National Seminar since 1999. He has undertaken a wide range of research into commons and town and village greens.
Martin Steer heads the specialist casework branch of the Planning Inspectorate, which covers commons, rights of way, transport and environmental appeals.
Bob Stevenson is a veterinarian surgeon in a private practice covering Monmouthshire and Chair of the Cardiff Regional Eradication Delivery Board.
Terri Thomas is Chair of the Glastir Commons Working Group in Wales established in 2009 to finalise the details of the new scheme due to start in 2012.
Chris Wade is Commons Registration Officer in Kent County Council who have been involved in the pilot project implementing Part 1 of the Commons Act 2006.
John Waldon is now an independent facilitator and involved with the South West Uplands Federation having previously worked for the RSPB.
Cameron Watt is Neighbourhoods Policy Leader in the National Housing Federation with responsibility for areas including planning, rural housing and community land trusts. He was previously Deputy Director of the Centre for Centre Justice.
Jon Westlake is heading up the development and implementation of the Glastir agri-environment scheme within the Welsh Assembly Government.
Angus Winchester is Senior Lecturer in the Department of History at Lancaster University and was co-investigator on the Contested Commons project.
Jim White is a senior ecologist with Footprint Ecology and was a member of the team that put together Natural England's new factsheets offering guidance to individuals and local communities on management of commons and greens.
Martin Wright is Land Searches Manager with Cornwall County Council, Commons Contact within the Local Land Charges Institute and a Director of ACRA.
