  • Thursday 10 June 2010. Saville Kushner, Professor of Public Evaluation at the University of the West of England will introduce the newly formed UWE Unit for Evaluation and Public Value.
    Professor Saville also outlined his approach to evaluation research, why it is so important, and why there are opportunities for collaborative work with CCRI.
  • Thursday, 29 April 2010 Janet Dwyer presented a talk on the RUDI project.

  • Thursday 1 April 2010 Martin Philips from the Department of Geography, University of Leicester, presented a talk entitled 'Sensing baroque rurality: an investigation of affordance and affect in an English village'.

    Tracey Coates from the Flood Hazard Research Centre at Middlesex University spoke on: Looking for 'Local Community': Understanding the social processes involved in coping with and adapting to floods, in urban and rural contexts.

  • Thursday 4 February 2010. Emma Dennis of UWE, who spent one year in the CCRI as a placement student, presented a talk on her research 'The Implications for Kenyan French Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) Producers and Exporters of Changes to EC Directive 91/414/EEC'.

    1. Chad Staddon: 'Critical Political Ecologies of Wood and Water' This presentation looked at recent publications on the social agency of the non-human using case studies from forestry and water management in Bulgaria and the UK.
    2. Jenny Hill 'Conserving tropical forest: from 'fortress' conservation to sustainable use' in which Jenny talked about her PhD research in Ghana, which privileged 'ecological fortress conservation' before moving on to her more recent work on ecotourism and environmental education in Peru and Australia.
    3. Alan Terry 'Ten years after: assessing the impact of the commercialisation of subsistence farming on the Komati pilot Project, Swaziland.' This set out how the sugar industry has been adopted by smallholder farmers and considers which model of development is best suited in a world where Swaziland no longer has access to premium prices by dint of its membership of the EU Sugar Protocol.
