Evaluation Approaches – Capturing Complexity

08/10/2020 at 12:15 - 13:15

We would like to invite you to a CCRI seminar on Evaluation Approaches. The aim of the seminar is to share ideas and experiences from three different evaluation studies undertaken by CCRI in recent years.

John Powell, Julie Ingram and Matt Reed: Evaluation Approaches.

Dr John Powell: Evaluating innovation in the 2007-13 Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE)

Standard rural development evaluation approaches fail to capture many of the outcomes arising from innovation processes. The presentation describes the application of a Social Return on Investment (SROI) model to identify and assess the benefits of social innovation arising from policy driven rural development at the national scale.

Dr Julie Ingram – Experiences within the Farmer-led Innovation Network (FLIN)

Farmer-centred innovation (FCI) approaches promote crucial outcomes, such as empowerment and capacity building, which conventional evaluation approaches struggle to deal with. Julie will talk about work in FLIN which has reviewed different approaches to evaluation in farmer-led initiatives and highlighted a need for new approaches that capture reflection and learning

Dr Matt Reed will talk about evaluating farmer-led projects and the challenges of ‘measuring’ changes in farmers’ learning and behaviour, particularly in the context of providing evidence for clients.

The webinar will take place on the Zoom platform which will require registration. This is free and we recommend that you do so in advance to avoid disappointment.
