George Cusworth is in the final stages of his PhD at the CCRI. The project was started in April 2016 and has been supervised by Jane Mills and Pete Gaskell of the CCRI and Stephen Chaplin of Natural England. It is a studentship co-funded by Natural England and the University of Gloucestershire.

George’s PhD has focussed on the long-term social and land-management impacts of participation in the agri-environment scheme Entry Level Stewardship. The project has, in particular, looked at the extent to which land management practices promoted by the scheme have been maintained after the termination of the individuals’ respective contracts, and whether participation in the scheme has stimulated increased engagement and commitment with sustainable management ideas.
