CCRI’s Isabel Fielden has been busy in her garden while the weather has been warm. She has been pleasantly surprised by the increase in biodiversity in her garden, since the Urban Garden Project started in January 2017.

For the last five years, Senior Research Fellow Dan Keech has been teaching in Brno on a short course about food and sustainability at the Masaryk University in Brno. This year he was persuaded to write a blog about his experiences about his time over there which always includes some local culinary delights.
Matt Reed is the lead author on a paper just published in Urban Agriculture & Regional Food Systems. The paper – “The Challenges of Governing Urban Food Production across Four European City-Regions: Identity, Sustainability and Governance” – is available with free access online.
A paper written by Damian Maye has been published in City, Culture and Society.. The paper is entitled ‘Smart food city’: conceptual relations between smart city planning, urban food systems and innovation theory’.
Between 2015 and 2016, CCRI’s Dan Keech worked with the OFU to carry out a research study to compare the socio-cultural dimensions of urban agriculture (UA) in Bath and Bamberg. The research is now completed and a project summary has been produced, which can be downloaded free of charge from our website.
Despite the nights drawing in and the onset of winter, there is plenty of planning to do for the spring. Year two of the Urban Garden Project will be about continuing to create wildlife habitats and to improve biodiversity. Read more in the 6th installment of Isabel’s blog.
Dan Keech is presenting work on ‘the cultures of urban gardening in Bavaria’ at an international conference in Riga, Latvia, which is taking place on 13th and 14th October.
