Professor Julie Ingram delivers inaugural lecture

Yesterday afternoon, Professor Julie Ingram delivered her inaugural professorial lecture entitled ‘Unpacking the multiple meanings of innovation for sustainable agriculture: the who, what, how and why?

Julie began her association with CCRI in 2000 when she started her ESRC funded PhD ‘’Agricultural advisers and the transition to sustainable soil management in England: an analysis of the role of knowledge and knowledge processes’. Since its completion Julie has forged her academic career contributing to multiple European, international and UK focussed research projects that aim to support the transition towards sustainable agriculture (e.g on topics of soil management, biodiversity, water quality, bioenergy crops, digital agriculture).

Julie gained the title of ‘Professor Of Innovation For Sustainable Agriculture’ in October 2020, although her lecture has been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, therefore the lecture yesterday was finally an opportunity for Julie, her family, friends and colleagues to finally celebrate this wonderful achievement.

CCRI’s Director, Matt Reed said “Julie’s inaugural was a joyful celebration and acknowledgement of all of her scholarship and research contributions.  It was great to see so many people join us to hear about how Julie’s work has developed and the impact of her research.  I’m sure that the recording will provide us with a reference point for our understanding of farmer innovation and how that can inform policy and practice.  It was a very special event for a colleague who has given so much to the CCRI and her field of study and continues to make vital contributions.”

The CCRI has recorded the event to enable those who were not able to attend opportunity to share the event with us. We will also provide further outputs including a transcript of the lecture and accompanying slides. Details regarding these will be announced on our website and social media platforms.
