The RGS-IBG Annual International Conference takes place from Tuesday 31st August to Friday 3rd September 2021 and two researchers from CCRI will contribute to the online event.
On the first day of the conference, Damian Maye presented a paper from the ROBUST research project concerning dynamic food procurement. In the paper, entitled ‘Dynamic purchasing systems and experimental governance: notes from a public procurement experiment in Gloucestershire’, which was written with CCRI colleagues Matt Reed and Dan Keech, Damian will present an account of the ‘living lab’ work to try and introduce dynamic procurement as a new system to source food for the next school food contract in the county.
On Wednesday, a paper co-authored by Damian will be presented by Ray Chan. The paper is from on-going work and builds upon other recent papers linking biosecurity management to geographies of care and utilises empirical data from China. The paper is entitled ‘On-farm biosecurity in livestock production: farmer behaviour, cultural identities and practices of care‘.
Dan Keech will be presenting on Thursday afternoon about tradition and innovation in urban horticulture in a session called ‘Landscapes of exchange, interaction and attachment’.
On Friday, a paper co-authored by Damian Maye and Jasmine Black will be presented by Steven McGreevy who is lead author. The paper is part of the CCRI’s AHRC-ESRC UK Japan comparative ruralism grant and compares agri-food policy regimes in the UK and Japan. The paper compares tensions between agri-food policy and market liberalisation.
Damian will also be co-convening two sessions about COVID-19 and food impacts. Convening with Damian will be Anna Krzywoszynska and Stephen Jones, who are the leading authors of a paper that will be presented during these sessions. The paper, which is from the UKRI-funded project concerning local food impacts and responses during the pandemic.
