Cotswold Climathon

The Cotswold Climathon took place on 27th and 28th September 2023, at the Royal Agricultural University, Cirencester. This NICRE-funded event was developed using the Rural Climathon Playbook, which was produced from our 2022 British Academy work on Co-Designing Sustainable Food Futures.

Participants were asked “How might we optimise food, farming and land use in Cotswold District to achieve net zero?” They learned about current climate action across Cotswold District, Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds during a morning webinar on the 27th, and developed five creative, locally relevant solutions (see illustrated notes above) during a dynamic and constructive in-person workshop on the 28th.

The CCRI team are now working closely with local partners on the final phase of the Rural Climathon Playbook, collectively exploring avenues for taking the solutions developed during the event forward.

The illustrated notes for the Climathon were produced by illustrator Amanda Steer, a Master’s graduate from the University of Gloucestershire. More of Amanda’s work can be found on her Instagram page.

Cotswold District Council have produced a video of the day which can be viewed below:
