Paul Courtney running workshop at community growing seminar

runner beans vegetables community gardening 270pxPaul Courtney is running a workshop on Wednesday, 23rd March, at a seminar organised by the Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens.

The seminar aims to highlight a new guide to tools for evaluating health and well-being outcomes from community growing programmes. It will share experiences from community growing groups, who are using the tools, together with leading academics in the field.

Paul will be talking about SROI (Social Return on Investment), which is a technique that aims to assess the financial contribution for outcomes that are not ordinarily associated with monetary values. Research conducted by Paul has shown that for every £1 invested in Local Food, up to £7 is generated for the local economy. Paul will be drawing on his work for the Hulme Community garden centre in central Manchester, which has involved development of a theory of change and SROI forecasts to allow them to capture and measure their impact on an on-going basis.
