In addition, she acts as an external PhD examiner and last week she was at Ghent University in Belgium for the defence of a PhD thesis entitled ‘Dynamics of participation and learning in sustainable farming initiatives: opening the black box’.

This was for the internal defence to ensure that the thesis was of a high enough standard to pass before undertaking the public defence, which is scheduled for May.

Julie’s main research interests are concerned with Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation Systems particularly with respect to European agricultural innovation policy development and her recent research has looked at social learning and co-innovation processes; boundaries; and socio-technical regime transition towards sustainable agriculture.
