Addressing the challenges of global food security

Julie Ingram at the Global Food Security Conference in Cape Town

Julie Ingram is at the 3rd International Conference on Global Food Security: Global Challenges, Local Solutions and Connected Pathways this week in Cape Town.

This is a great opportunity to network and share ideas about implementing local solutions and innovation for sustainable agriculture, a core area of CCRI’s research portfolio and projects, such as VALERIE and Agridemo F2F.

There is no one solution when it comes to ensuring food security and sustainable agriculture. Whilst many interventions have attempted to address the challenges of food security, they have perhaps not considered adequately the complexity of the problem or the need for locally-driven solutions. The conference has five core themes which reflect an integrated approach to identifying solutions to the complex global challenge of food security.

  • Food creation
  • Food safety and bio security
  • Food loss and waste
  • Food in a changing society
  • Food utilization

The conference is taking place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre between 3rd and 6th December.
