Jane Mills draws from RECARE and SoilCare research at BonaRes conference

Jane Mills has been at the BonaRes Conference in Berlin this week (26-28th February).

The conference -“Soil as a Sustainable Resource” Breaking new ground for sustainable management of soil functions along the frontiers of soil ecosystem research – brought together researchers from all disciplines of soil science to discuss the functionality of soil ecosystems and how to develop strategies towards sustainable soil management.

Jane gave a presentation “Are advisory services ‘fit for purpose’ to support sustainable soil management? A review of advisory capacity in Europe”, which was based on work done by Jane and Julie Ingram  for the EU funded RECARE and SoilCare projects. Jane presented a framework for evaluating advisory systems for supporting sustainable soil management and explored the particular attributes of sustainable soil management which mean that current advisory services are often inadequate to deliver the support that farmers’ need.
